Technographic data APIs compared
Seven ways to answer “which vendors does this company use”, and they do not answer the same question. The axis that matters is not price — it is where the data comes from, because that determines what each one structurally cannot see.
Every claim below links to the page it came from and was checked on 2026-08-09. Where a company does not publish something, it says so rather than estimating. Where a company's own pages contradict each other, the specific page is cited.

Why the data source decides everything
Front-end fingerprinting — Wappalyzer, BuiltWith, most Apify actors — reads what the browser loads. It is fast, broad and correct about analytics tags, frameworks and CMSs. It is also structurally blind to any vendor that never touches the browser: the payment processor, the data warehouse, the support desk, the hosting provider. Job-posting mining — TheirStack — sees what a company is hiring for, which is a leading indicator but misses any company that adopted a tool earlier and is not currently hiring, a limitation they document themselves.
VendorStacks reads a fourth thing: what companies are legally obliged to disclose about their own vendors. Subprocessor lists and DPAs name back-end providers explicitly, because that is their purpose. The trade-off is honest and worth stating — a company that publishes no subprocessor list is invisible to us, where a fingerprinting tool would still see its front end. These approaches are complementary far more than they are substitutes.

Where they win: Historical depth and breadth on front-end technology, and relationship data across sites. Their index goes back years, which ours does not.

Where they win: People data and funding signals. If you need contacts, headcount trends or investment activity next to firmographics, that is their product and it is not ours.

Where they win: IT spend estimates and contract intelligence at enterprise scale, with human verification in the loop. For a large sales org with a budget and a procurement question, that depth is real and we do not offer it.

A general scraping platform whose marketplace hosts third-party 'actors' that detect a site's technology stack. Apify is infrastructure and a marketplace, not a data provider.
Where they win: Flexibility. If you need a custom pipeline, or to combine tech detection with arbitrary scraping, a platform beats a fixed endpoint.
